Individual continued competency requirements are intended to allow maximum flexibility to EMS providers choosing continuing education offerings. If you feel you are weak in any practice area, this is where you will seek out additional continuing education and apply it here. State or CAPCE-approved continuing education is accepted, as are college courses in applied or life sciences (biology mathematics, chemistry, etc.) Card courses, such as ACLS, PALS, BLS, PHTLS, etc. can be claimed as continuing education, but no longer as 1:1 hours. For example, a 16-hour ACLS course may include only a few hours applicable to National topic areas. The remaining unassigned hours can be applied to Local or Individual requirements.

At MEDIC Training Solutions, we encourage all our students to apply their CE hours first to National topics, then Local topics, and then take what is left over (hours not assigned to a specific topic area) and apply it to the Individual content.

NREMT allows all Individual continuing education to be distributive (non-live) education. Hours requirements are as follows:

  • Medic: 15 hours
  • AEMT: 12.5 hours
  • EMT: 10 hours
